Love Thy Country - Can Patriotism be Reclaimed by the Left?

In this podcast, Another Europe and guests discuss a perennial question for the left today: can place, nationality and patriotism play a part in progressive politics?

As the British left reassesses its strategy and positioning in the coming years, a familiar debate has recently resurfaced - that of the possibility of a 'progressive patriotic' left politics. Two figures loom large over this debate: George Orwell, primarily due to his famous essay "Notes on nationalism" and the late Marxist, Stuart Hall, whose work influenced the New Left and New Labour.

To discuss this question, Another Europe hosts Zoe Williams and Luke Cooper are joined by the Labour MP for Dagenham and Rainham, Jon Cruddas, and Contributing Editor at Novara Media, Ash Sarkar.
